DOG EAR INFECTION REMEDY
Does your dog suffer from ear yeast infections? Here’s a remedy that I have used that has worked. You need 4 ounces of Witch Hazel, 1 tablespoon of Boric Acid and 4 drops of Gentian Violet. Boric Acid and Gentian Violet can be hard to find. You may have to ask your local pharmacy to special order both of them for you although you can often find Gentian Violet in the Hispanic section of a drug store. You mix all of them up and store it in a 4 ounce bottle. You can ask your local pharmacy if they can give you one and a 1 ml syringe.
This remedy really does work. I began to use it when Wrigley began to have a recurring ear yeast infection. I noticed he would get one after getting a bath. It seems that water would get into his ear and cause problems. I did some research and discovered that a lot of dog folks, especially those who own breeds that do a lot of water retrieving, would use this to cure and prevent ear yeast infections. I figured I’d try it. I would put 1 ml in the affected ear twice a day. Something to keep in mind is that this mixture will stain things due to the Gentian Violet so make sure you’re not wearing any white when you put this in your dogs ear. I would rub Wrigley’s ear to make sure that it got down deep into the ear canal and I would also apply some to a cotton ball to clean out any gunk and to apply it to the ear flap. After a few days, I began to notice a HUGE difference in his ear. It wasn’t stinky and there was very little discharge. You have to use it for about 3 weeks to 4 weeks to ensure that it kills any fungus/bacteria in the ear so that it’s fully cured. I also use this as a preventative for after a bath or when Wrigley was playing in water. Ever since I’ve used this, Wrigley has not had an ear yeast infection ever since!
***Disclaimer*** I am not a veterinarian. This should NOT be used in lieu of veterinary care. A dog ear yeast infection has a “yeasty” smell to it and a brown discharge. If you aren’t sure what kind of ear infection your dog has, it’s best to take it to the vet to make sure it gets the proper diagnosis.
