IKE BIRD
Ike Bird is a Lutino Cockatiel. He's also the oldest resident of Sekc's Zoo. He was hatched in August of 1996. He came from a breeder who hand feeds and hand raises his birds. Because of that, Ike Bird was already tame when he came to live with us. Ike Bird is a trip. He can mimic sounds which include cats, dogs, wild birds, phones and other strange things. He can whistle songs and he can dance. Not only that, he can talk as well. He says "What's up?", "No!", "Come here!" and he says a few naughty words. Sometimes, Ike Bird is too smart for his own good and quite honestly, he's smarter than some people I know.
If you are interested in a Cockatiel, please do research. I think they make excellent pets. If you are interested in a bird that's a bit more advanced than a Canary, Finch or a Budgie(parakeet) but not as hard to take care of as a Parrot, a Cockatiel would be an excellent choice. They can be easy to maintain, they can learn to whistle songs and they can learn to talk. The bad things about them is they can be dusty and they can be loud. I highly recommend getting them from a good breeder who hand feeds and raises the chicks. Not only will you get a tame bird, it will be healthier, better looking and reasonable in price. I have seen Cockatiels being sold in pet stores for as high as $200 with any variety/color other than grey being more expensive. Pet store Cockatiels usually come from bad sources, are poor looking and aren't tame. If you want to learn more about Cockatiels, please check out these websites...

Another thing to keep in mind is Cockatiels, and other birds as well, can be found in shelters or rescues. There are quite a few bird rescues out there. A great place to find a bird in need of a loving home is Pet Finder.
